The Sanctuary is always looking for donations to enhance the lives of its families. We have been the fortunate recipients of collection drives conducted by scout troops, post offices, faith communities, businesses, families and fraternal organizations.
When families first move into their furnished Sanctuary apartment, we stock the kitchens with canned goods, new linens, paper towels and cleaning supplies; the bathrooms with toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, toilet paper and lotions; bedrooms with brand new linens, and linen closets with laundry detergent and new towels.
Providing new supplies conveys a "you are worthwhile" message to homeless families who have often had disheartening experiences. What follows are suggestions of items in continuous demand:
Donate a phone
South Suburban Family Shelter is collecting used cellular phones as a fundraising venture. Cell phones and accessories no more than 5 years old are being accepted. Collection boxes are at: Marie Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland, Homewood, IL and "One More Thing" Resale Shop, 343 Main St. in Park Forest. If you own a business and would be willing to display posters with information about this collection drive, please call. For more information, contact Vicki at 708-798-7737, ext.233.
Contribution/Tribute Card
South Suburban Family Shelter offers a Contribution/Tribute card for sale for a minimum contribution of $5 per card. A tribute card is a meaningful way to honor a special occasion or life cycle event. The card features a colorful, original design by artist, Jane Murray Lewis. The message inside the card reads: "A donation has been made to South Suburban Family Shelter" and space to write a personal message. When you see this striking card, you will want to purchase several to keep on hand. Contact Vicki at 708-798-7737, ext.233 for more information, or send a check made payable to SSFS to P.O. Box 937, Homewood, IL 60430.
